Sadly Im in NZ and cant enter but love the sound of this book '
I know it was an upcoming movie but I love books better so will read it rather than see it!!

  2. My favourite fariytale adaptation has to be the musical Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim. All the fairytales brought together and everything going wrong!

  3. Angela Evans /

I would have to say Ever After with Drew Barrymore in it. I like how they stuck with the romantic side but also put their own rendition on it. And Drew Barrymore is just gorgeous in this film. It melts my heart every time I watch it. :)

  4. I dont know if it qualifies as farytale because its very dark but I absolutely adored the film Pans Labyrinth. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430/

Another favourite is Ella Enchanted. Both the book: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ella_Enchanted

    And the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327679/

My favourite adaptation of a fairy tale would be Hoodwinked!

  8. Ellen Faith /

Id have to say Brothers Grimm with Heath Ledger. Gosh, I miss him. I wouldnt exactly say that its a fairytale, but it fits the requirments I suppose. Plus, its Heath Ledger. Its treasure.

  9. Teresa /

Ella enchanted, it opens up a whole new world from the original Cinderella story. Its quite funny how its been changed and twisted to form a whole different story.

  10. Kylie Plester /

Tangled was such a beautiful adaptation of Rapunzel and gave her amazing power and character with her magical hair.

  11. I recently finished reading Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce and thought it was a very clever adaption of the Red Riding Hood fairytale. Red Riding Hood has always been my favourite fairytale, and I love most adaptions of it.

  12. A book i read many years ago came to mind immediately

Fire and Hemlock its a merging of the classics Tam Lin and Thomas the Rhymer

I found this in the discount bin at a small bookshop and it sounded intriguing it quickly became a favourite before it was lost in a move. Well worth the read if you can find a copy

  13. I cant choose just one!

    1) Snow Queen! Such a gorgeous movie! I probably wouldnt rank it at number one if it wasnt for the way they made the snow queen so icy. It is reflected in every way!
    Trailer: http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2096365849/

    2) The Brothers Grim. I cant help it. Heath Ledger, Lena Headey and Monica Bellucci in the same film? Bliss! And it was so beautifully done! The way they wove all the tales together into one was terrific, the splashes of colour, the acting, special effects and the myth were well used. Love it! Even Matt Damon couldnt make me hate this movie LOL

    3. V.A.s.T. Pretty When You Cry. The film clip for this (awesome) song is amazing! It also has the Little Red Ridding Hood theme

And, finally, one of my all time favourite movies!
    4) Nang Nak
I cant actually find out how to buy this in Australia *cries* so I watch it every time it comes onto SBS. It is a Thai ghost story based on a legend of Thailand. Two scenes have always stuck with me. When he sees her for a ghost, and when he finally lays her to rest. So evocative! Worth watching if you ever get the chance.

I really like modern fairytale take on the disney classics. A Gallery of Fallen Princesses
Where is Snow White now etc.
Dont get me wrong, i love fairytales but I like that these show something beyond the Happily Ever After (something that exists in reality)
    http://www.geekologie.com/2009/06/when_the_fairy_tale_ends_real.php

Also Im slightly ashamed to admit I like Brandys version of Cinderellathe songs and the awesomely illogical ethnicities are great (dont judge me)

  15. My favourite fairy tale is a tie between :

The Wild Swans by Hans Christian Anderson (11 princes turned into swans by wicked step-mother, saved by devotion and love of the princess)

    and

The White Cat by Madame la Comtesse dAulnoy (a king sets his 3 sons tasks to see who is the most worthy, love by the youngest/purest sets the Queen free)

  16. angela /

Love the Brothers Grimm. So real and just like how I had imagined it.

  17. Rebecca /

i love the book Spindles end by Robin McKinley a must read xD

  18. Annie /

Has to be The Princess Bride!!! A beautiful take on fairytales, while still being perfectly true to the form!

  19. I really liked the Princess and the Frog, but Im yet to see a great film adaption of it.

  20. FairyWhispers /

My favourite adaption has to be the greek mythology Percy jackson into the movie Percy Jackson.

But Im also looking forward too Meg Cabots Abandon . Its based on the myth of Presephone.

    regards,

  21. Congrats to the winners!
