The Folio Society: beautiful books for book lovers

Recently Updated20 300x300 The Folio Society: beautiful books for book lovers

A few days ago an enormous box was couriered to my office. Inside were several stunning books by the Folio Society, a company that specialises in producing elegant, illustrated editions of well-known books. My package included Margaret Atwoods'The Handmaids Tale, William Goldings'The Lord of the Flies, Douglas Adamss'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Kenneth Grahames'The Wind in the Willows, and I have to say that theyre a far cry from my ratty paperback editions!

The books are each packaged in a slipcase, feature a gorgeous hardcover design, often with elegant foiling, and a printed on thick, glossy paper with full-colour illustrations throughout. The only problem is that youre torn between wanting to thumb through them and wanting to keep them in their original, pristine condition.

Because I know you want to enjoy some vicarious book love, here are some shots of each of the books.

  1. Yes! A million times yes! I would not hesitate to buy every book they have. How does the membership work, if you know?

I know what you mean, Ivy! A bit more about membership can be found here. As far as I can tell, members are asked to buy four books within a membership year (which runs between September-August), but there arent any sign-up fees or ongoing requirements to remain a member. By continuing your membership or buying additional books within a specified time, you can usually qualify for free gifts. :)

  2. I received the same package and they are stunning books!
