I knew that Luke and Greta had a reputation for never gossiping about the customers. The only dirty laundry I ever got from them was, well, actual dirty laundry.

Sharon Short is an author of several cozy mysteries, including todays Hung Out to Die. Her novels follow the domestic delights of stain-busting and crime-busting laundromat owner Josie Nosy Toadfern. If this book is anything to go by, Shorts novels are slight but fun, and youll be able to easy get through one in a single sitting.

Hung Out to Die is the latest adventure for small-town dry cleaning specialist Josie Toadfern. Having been abandoned at a young age by her gadabout parents and subsequently shut out by most of the rest of her crabby family, Josie is perturbed when after many years of familial silence she is suddenly invited to matriarch Mamaws Thanksgiving dinner. Poor Josie finds herself stuck with an awkward group of virtual strangersincluding her parents, who have returned to town in order to set up an antiques warehouse that will likely shut all of the small-town antiques operators down. Then, of course, someone winds up dead, and Josie finds herself in a position where she has to defend her father against accusations of murder.

Hung Out to Die is generally a fun read. There is some great dialogue and some curious insights into the world of dry cleaning. Im also curious about the recipe for Mamaws cranberry salad, but apparently thats a secret. The book does lag in a few pieces, though, and every now and then things seem to happen abruptly and without warning. There was a strange scene change at the end of the first chapter that left me completely lost, as though time were skipping forward without me. These issues aside, youll likely enjoy this fun and silly mystery romp and its good and er, clean, humour.
